The Gavi dei Gavi Black Label is the flagship of the estate Scolca, manufactured under a strict respect for nature and its cycles through traditional methods of pruning and harvesting. In Gavi, Cortese was implanted for the first time by the Marquis Cambiaso over a century ago with the purpose of serving a fine wine for his guests. His example was soon imitated all over the territory of Gavi, and began to be sold, even if the knowledge of wine-making of the past did not allow quality, the wines were fragile and subject to oxidation. Major wine brands from Piedmont, Cinzano and later Martini & Rossi, began to be interested in the Cortese di Gavi, buying bulk wine from local producers to use as a basis for their sparkling wines. The Gavi was doomed forever to be a second-tier wine, but after World War II the history of the Cortese has changed thanks to the Scolca estate, who created a modern white wine, fragrant and pleasant, of great character, who won a well-deserved success. The Scolca is therefore the cellar symbol of the Gavi and the Gavi dei Gavi Black Label the highest expression of the grape Cortese. The vineyards from which come from the grapes that give life to the “Gavi dei Gavi” have over sixty years, synonymous of high quality in the world of wine, in fact, the yields are lower but more concentrated, the roots take the nutrients they need in meters in depth, donating to the wines greater elegance and complexity. This wonderful magic of nature is accompanied in the cellar by skillful winemaking process of grapes Cortese, experience gained in over ninety harvests, remains comparison of reference. The result is a wine that surprises with a strong character, but, at the same time is delicate and harmonious, with excellent freshness, one of the absolute pearls for Gavi.
